About Us ( What exactly is Free Agent Ltd.? )
Free Agent Ltd. is the mother company managing the "Japan Video Translation Academy", which was established in Shibuya, Tokyo in 1996. This marked the first ever school established in Japan dedicated to nurturing translators specifically in the field of television and video footage. The aims of the "Japan Video Translation Academy" are to nurture translators capable of localizing foreign contents impeccably, and to respond to the various needs of the market with a high-quality service.
Since the 1990s, due to the rapid global advance of every kind of media and television channel, the amount of overseas contents being watched in Japan has gone through the roof. The kind of footage coming into Japan is fragmenting and diversifying all the time. There have always been movies and drama content, but now there is content on everything from reality television to sports, documentaries, news programs, cooking, fashion, and many other aspects of modern living.
It is our belief that this generation requires video translators who possess a sophisticated skill-set encompassing linguistic ability, specialist knowledge and media sense.
Our unique education enterprise program continues to gather speed, and in 2005 we moved to our new location in Nihombashi, Tokyo.
Since inception, we have turned out over 3600 successful alumni and 500 new students enroll every year.
To add to this, in 2006 we introduced a subtitling training software program that was pioneered in-house. Our education enterprise continues to develop alongside our providing an unparalleled learning environment for our students.
JVTA Media Translation Center was established in 1998 and as our business hub provides a wide-ranging service to all sorts of clients, including program production companies, movie distribution companies, CS broadcasting channels, music production companies, publishing companies and government administration offices.
JVTA Media Translation Center boasts numerous director teams among its staff, who are constantly carrying out research into how to offer the utmost quality, speed and cost-performance that the market demands.
From the point of view of supporting the development of video culture, as well as widening the scope of the activities of our alumni, we actively endorse and cooperate in various film festivals, such as the Tokyo International Film Festival, the Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival, The Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival, and various others.
We supported the special screening of "Mobile Suit Gundam" at the "Anime Focus" section of the 2007 42nd Chicago International Film Festival, to which director Tomino Yoshiyuki was invited.
In a border-less market, and as the needs for high added-value footage increase, the role of localization will become more and more integral.
We will continue to yearn to become the perfect partner for clients and our alumni, who require translators who can create value.
