- JVTA Los Angeles >Comprehensive Introduction to Visualmedia Translation
For the fundamental understanding of visualmedia translation.
The course offers preliminary training in both E-J and J-E visualmedia translation. Students will learn the theory and fundamentals of visualmedia translation through classroom discussions, exercises, and feedback on their assigned homework each week. Upon completing the course, students can advance to the follow-up courses depending on their interest and aptitude.
Monday class:
Starts on March 22nd, 2010 and ends on May 17th, 2010.
Class meets every Monday from 7:00 - 9:00PM.
Sunday class:
Starts on March 21st, 2010 and ends on May 23nd, 2010.
Class meets every Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00PM.
$850 (Including $100 registration fee. All class material will be provided for students.)

- Yukiko Nakajima
- Yukiko Nakajima came to Los Angeles to work for the West Coast office of Shueisha Publishing Company as a correspondent more than 25 years ago after several years of studying in Europe. She started to write exclusively for the ROADSHOW magazine after Shueisha closed its Los Angeles office. In addition to reporting from Hollywood for the ROADSHOW online magazine, she often works as a translator and is an active member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which presents the Golden Globes Awards every year.
- Jessica Renslow
- Hailing from Gary, Indiana, Jessica Renslow has always been considered a “Jessie”. She graduated from Ball State University in 2003 with a BA in Japanese Language/Culture and Telecommunications Production. As a member of the Japanese Exchange Teaching (JET) Program, she was stationed in a remoter Hokkaido village for three years. Currently, she is the resident Translator and Production Coordinator for Studiopolis, Inc. She has worked on such shows as Bleach. Naruto, Naruto-Shippuden, Digimon Data Squad, and others. In 2007 Guerilla English (her bilingual book on teaching ESL) was released in Japan. It’s has been HAJET Publications’ top seller to date.
- Sean Myers
- Sean Myers has been affiliated with JVTA since before the school established its campus in Los Angeles, while he was living and working in Tokyo. Sean has worked as a Japanese-English localization editor for many companies, including media productions and advertising agencies. Some of the projects he has translated have won awards at the New York Art Directors Club, Ad Fest, and the Cannes Lions. Currently, his day job is researcher at the Los Angeles bureau of one of the big three national daily newspapers in Japan, and in the darkness of night, he writes scripts.
- Ayano Fujita
- Ayano Fujita has worked for JVTA since before graduating from Waseda University and completing her vocational studies at Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy, in Tokyo. As an account executive in the Media Translation Center, in Tokyo Ms. Fujita was responsible for assigning projects to individual translators/subtitlers and to ensure timely delivery of each project and quality control. Ms. Fujita has an extensive understanding and working knowledge of JVTA philosophy and standard practices dues to many positions she has held within the company. Her fluency in English language and experiences has made a perfect candidate to teach at the Los Angeles branch. She is a translator/subtitler as well, and has localized many TV shows, short films, and DVD contents.
