Advance E-J Visualmedia Translation Course

For the master level knowledge and skills of
E-J visualmedia translation.

As we enter the final stage of visualmedia translation training, the course will be focusing on polishing the skill-set especially in the areas such as:
Deep comprehension of English (as source language),
Professional-level writing/expression of Japanese (as target language),
Fundamentals of translation,
Studies of visualmedia commonly exported to Japan—film & television, and
Hands-on, practical training in subtitling software.

Schedule

Starting in May, 2010
Class will meet once every week for 2 hours each time.

Instructors

Yurika Dennis
Yurika Araki Dennis was born and raised in Japan. She taught English in high school and college in Japan before going to Texas to teach Japanese Language and Culture for cultural exchange program. She has worked in the entertainment industry since the early 90’s as a translator, subtitler, and localization producer. She has worked on Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Great Teacher Onizuka, Lupin The Third Ⅱ, and many more anime titles.
Ayano Fujita
Ayano Fujita has worked for JVTA since before graduating from Waseda University and completing her vocational studies at Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy, in Tokyo. As an account executive in the Media Translation Center, in Tokyo Ms. Fujita was responsible for assigning projects to individual translators/subtitlers and to ensure timely delivery of each project and quality control. Ms. Fujita has an extensive understanding and working knowledge of JVTA philosophy and standard practices dues to many positions she has held within the company. Her fluency in English language and experiences has made a perfect candidate to teach at the Los Angeles branch. She is a translator/subtitler as well, and has localized many TV shows, short films, and DVD contents.
