Our Mission

Utilize language to connect to the world and design the future of visual media.

For over two decades, Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy has been at the forefront of the visual media translation industry, producing subtitles in various languages, along with closed captions and audio description for the visually and hearing-impaired. Over the years, we have expanded our areas of expertise beyond translation and now provide a variety of services with a global touch that involve video creation, language learning, PR, education, and much more.

Visual media, whether it be film, TV, or video, can be seen everywhere in our daily lives, and consumption of this media worldwide is at an all-time high. As a result, the demand for localization services for visual media and human resources that can provide these services has skyrocketed. Here at JVTA, we boast a professionally trained team of highly skilled language and visual media industry professionals that are able to rapidly meet this demand. We remain committed to being a leader in the visual media industry and delivering visual media content to Japan and throughout the world.

JVTA Milestones

  • 1996

    Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy is established; English-Japanese visual media translation and “English Clock” courses commence

  • 2003

    Japan Corporation Free Agent Co., Ltd. is established (inherited school and translation business)

  • 2008

    Los Angeles corporation Free Agent, Inc., is established

    Commenced providing subtitling support for the UNHCR Refugee Film Festival (now the UNHCR WILL2LIVE Film Festival)

  • 2009

    Los Angeles school is established

  • 2010

    Los Angeles corporation ISS Translation, Inc., is acquired and its name is changed to JVTA
    ※JVTA is approved by the California Department of Education as an SEVIS-accredited school for M-1 visa (vocational training visa) application purposes

  • 2011

    Japan’s first Japanese-English visual media translation course is launched

  • 2012

    Company name Free Agent Co., Ltd. is changed to Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy

  • 2014

    Commenced visual media translation course at the Department of International Communication, School of Humanities at Meisei University

  • 2017

    Russian corporation OOO JVTA is established;
    company is selected as eligible for Russian business hands-on support by JETRO

  • 2019

    Acquired ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification in information security management systems (ISMS)

  • 2020

    JVTA holds J-Anime Meeting in Russia, an online event to promote Japanese animation and culture in Russia
