The JVTA Formula: VOD Classes + One-on-One Coaching
JVTA’s Media Translation program uses a hybrid approach, combining on-demand learning with assignment reviews and feedback.

Complete one class per week at a time and place that fits your lifestyle. After watching the lecture, you’ll complete an assignment with the help of the Assignment Guide. Rather than simply listening to a lecture, you’ll put what you learn into practice to reinforce your skills.

A reviewer will give you written feedback on your assignment, while the Feedback Video breaks down common mistakes and pitfalls in that assignment. Learn why a certain translation works, and take an objective approach to assessing your current level and the quality of your translation.

With the Media Translation program, you’ll get two kinds of personalized coaching to support your learning. Your advisor will help you with questions about your studies, while a translation tutor will provide one-on-one guidance tailored to your personal challenges and weaknesses. In our VOD program, you’ll never feel like you’re on your own.
*Early Completion Track available: High-achieving students who meet certain performance criteria may qualify to finish the program after completing the Core Course (10 months for English-to-Japanese; 8 months for Japanese-to-English), allowing them to take the trial ahead of schedule. Students who complete the program early may still choose to take the Master Course. For details, please inquire about the Early Completion Track during your One-on-One Consultation.
Individual Support, Tailored to You
The Media Translation program includes comprehensive, personalized support for each student, provided by professional media translators who studied at JVTA themselves.
Advisor: Provides a 30-minute One-on-One Consultation every two weeks, checking in on your progress and helping you stay motivated. Your advisor is there to answer any questions you may have about your studies.
Tutor: Provides a One-on-One Training Session around once a month, offering practical advice tailored to your individual challenges and weaknesses.
Learn from Professional Media Translators
All of our instructors are established professionals working in media translation or in the broader media industry. With a thorough understanding of the program as a whole, each instructor teaches their area of expertise. They are passionate about helping the next generation of translators grow, and eager to pass on their skills and experience.
The Path to Becoming a Media Translator
The English-to-Japanese Media Translation Program and the Japanese-to-English Media Translation Program each consist of three steps, after which students are eligible to take the JVTA Trial. Students who pass the trial will proceed to OJT, and upon completion, they will launch their media translation careers.
The trial is held once every two months. There is no limit on the number of attempts and no deadline for passing, so students can take the trial as many times as they need.
